The site has cumulative traces over the time with dramatic historical background. The current Maru intended to be void with some minimal traces of the past. The proposal shares the spirit of emptiness, and wanted to add functional canopy structure with just minimal touch.

The fabric roof supported by light weight frame steps aside not to block the view to the cathedral. The shape of roof borrows its form from the main gate of Deoksugung Palace nearby.

One can see clearly the structure of Korean traditional roof structure. Horizontal benches connect columns with various seat heights because of the sloped floor of the existing building.

The entry plaza in front of the roof welcomes people to Seoul Maru. Looking from north, one can see the elegant roof
shape in full, with the view to Deoksugung Palace behind.
